I promised a post on the Gurkhas and here it is. Today we heard the excellent news that the government has overturned its previous announcement on the Gurkhas and will now allow every single Gurkha who has served four years in the Army and their dependants to settle in the UK. The delight at hearing the news was clearly evident for Joanna Lumley who has been a leading voice for the Gurkhas, and whose father served along side them.
And about time, while this government has dragged its feet in making todays announcement, it should never have had to deal with the issue. The Gurkhas have been fighting for the UK for a long time and today’s decision should have been made a long time ago.

So today was a very good day for the Gurkhas and their families. They have served the UK with honour and the country will from today repay them for that service.
